Feminism Is En Vogue Once Again - Thanks Chanel.

Karl Lagerfeld, the creative mastermind behind Chanel, paid homage to both his own mother, as well as the Chanel fashion house’s feminist pasts’ courtesy of a staged runway protest. The models occupied Chanel Boulevard during Paris Fashion Week and marched down the runway carrying signs and shouting into megaphones. Feminism was their cause and the models were determined to bring attention to the issue.

Today there are significant hesitations from the modern women to take on the title of feminist because of the negative connotations that have been tied to it in the past. Women unfortunately equate man-hater with feminism and it is time to change this inaccurate association. Yes, this may be the best time in the history of the world to be a woman, but we are still light years away from a world of gender equality.

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel the founder of Chanel was also a major trailblazer for women’s fashion and feminism.  She challenged gender expectations through dress by placing emphasis on masculine lines and comfort over corsets.

Today women are achieving unprecedented success; we are the healthiest, wealthiest, most educated group of women known to existence.  The absolute last thing on our mind should be the discomfort of our clothing. Coco Chanel knew this and so do we at Luxxie Boston. Just like Coco we are aiming to empower and never restrict the modern women. Women who don’t have to deal with wardrobe malfunctions have the advantage of walking into any room feeling comfortable, confident and sexy. They can focus on bigger issues and alter the course of history.

It is refreshing to see the fashion community breath new life into the feminist movement.  Feminists are not angry man-haters, but individuals with greater visions on how to make the world a better place for women. Today celebrities from Karl Lagerfeld to Emma Watson, are creating a pro-feminist movement encouraging all women to embrace the term.

There is no better time than now to be a woman. Lagerfeld knows this and so do we at Luxxie Boston. It is time fashion started to empower women rather than constantly tell them they are not enough.  Here at Luxxie, we tell you are great the way you are; its everything else around you that needs to be reshaped.
